ABSTRACT:
This paper presents the calculation of graphs of variation of equivalent vertical stress pulse time with vehicle velocity and depth for flexible pavements having lateritic sub grade soils and structural layers of laterite gravels. One pavement profile has a lateritic sandy soil as base layer, and another is representative of full-depth laterite pavements. Mechanistic design parameters were obtained in repeated loading triaxial tests with compacted specimens at optimum moisture content. Stress pulse times at various depths for pavements having crushed stone base were compared with those having laterite gravel layers. Compacted laterite gravel layers resulted on greater load pulse time when compared to crushed stone base layers. It is observed how representative is the stress duration pulse of 0.1 sec for different depths of the six pavements profile.
